CDF Welcomes Julia Selig, New Communications and Operations Associate
Julia Selig joined the staff of the Cooperative Development Foundation as Communications and Operations Associate in November. Julia, pronounced Hoo-lyah, gained cooperative experience in group equity housing cooperatives as a member of the Inter-Cooperative Council at the University of Michigan and current Board of Directors Member of the North American Students of Cooperation (NASCO).
Most recently, Julia completed a year of service as an AmeriCorps State member as Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Site Coordinator at United Way of Washtenaw County. Why AmeriCorps? Julia explains “I found myself safe and able in the middle of a pandemic thanks to the mutual aid efforts within my own cooperative community. AmeriCorps was a way for me to directly assist others during such a difficult time.”
Born in Florida, Julia was raised in the Dominican Republic and moved to Ann Arbor in 2014. It was during their first semester of college when they joined ICC Ann Arbor and began their cooperative journey. “I wouldn’t be who I am today without co-ops. The affordability, community, and incentives to grow professionally and individually that the co-ops provided have propelled me forward since I first became a member.”
“Joining CDF as a staff member is a dream job come true. I look forward to supporting CDF’s efforts to grow and bolster the cooperative movement,” says Julia. Julia is responsible for CDF’s social media presence, The Buzz, and communications with the press.
