Adria Powell Appointed to the CDF Board of Directors

Adria Powell, President and CEO at Cooperative Home Care Associates (CHCA) joined the Cooperative Development Foundation board of directors in January. Powell was appointed by the CDF board.

CDF is delighted to welcome Powell, who brings considerable expertise and experience in worker owned cooperatives in the health and home care industry. She leads Cooperative Home Care Associates (CHCA), which is the largest employee-owned cooperative business in the country, firmly anchored in the Bronx. Under her leadership, CHCA empowers home health aides—who typically earn modest wages for taking care of the elderly and disabled at home—by giving them better benefits and opportunities to buy a stake in the business, serve on its board of directors, and share in surplus. Powell leads this innovative organization with the belief that investing in the home care workforce will result in quality outcomes and higher consumer satisfaction.

Powell fills the vacancy left by Judy Ziewacz, “whose decades of dedicated service have inspired each of us and so many others. Through her leadership, Judy has greatly contributed to making CDF a powerful force for social and economic justice,” said CDF Board Chair Rich Larochelle.
